Xing Er

The first time I met Heather was when she came to China for a visit in 1983. I remember the anxiety and excitement my family and I had felt upon waiting for her arrival because we had never seen another person of a different nationality before. Although she spoke no chinese and I could not understand English (besides the normal "hello" and "goodbye"), we still managed to form a strong bond. She was like an angel. She was beautiful and sweet but it was her dazzling smile and great personality which stole our hearts. I remember when Roy first introduced us to her, we had much difficulty in pronouncing her name. However, she also had a chinese name; "Ba Fa" which meant "hundred flower". It was a beautiful name which suited her wonderfully. Like a flower, she was a breath of fresh air. She was such a lovely person and she brightened up our lives.

Heather was also an immensely kind and caring person. I remember the time when I wanted to migrate to Australia but had my application rejected. I didn't know what to do but it was Heather who helped me in the end. As soon as she heard of my predicament, she came to my aid. She wrote a letter to the Embassy and so because of her, I was able to go to Australia. I can not thank her enough.

My family and I are greatly saddened that she is no longer here but our memories of her will remain with us.
